Joanna, also known as Jane or Joan, was the daughter of Richard and Phillis (Mansell) Marks. She had at least eight siblings and seems to have been closest to her brother James. Sadly, not much else is known about her family life.

She married Isaac Broad on January 7, 1832 in Towednack and had eleven children with him. The first, also Isaac, died at two weeks of age; every other child outlived Joanna, who passed away at just fifty-four years of age.
