Herb was the son of Claiborne Franklin Acuff and Nancy David Halliburton. He married Kathryn Collins on 9 April 1914 in Monroe County, Missouri and they resided on a farm there until they moved to Shelbina, Missouri in 1924. They were the parents of two children, Howard Franklin Acuff and Nancy Helen Acuff. In 1928, the family moved to Lee's Summit, Missouri where Herb was employed in his brother's Chevrolet dealership. In 1936, Herb purchased the White Motor Company in Harrisonville, Missouri with a partner and changed the name to Harris-Acuff Motor Company. In 1941, he bought out his partner and continued the business as the Herb Acuff Motor Company. Herb was a member of the Harrisonville Lion's Club and Harrison Civic Association. He was a past president of each. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas City Boy Scouts of America. (Information from obituary for H.F.
