Funeral services for Richard J. Joslyn Sr. of Gillete are scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Gillette. Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home, with a wake service at 7 p.m. The Rev.
Thomas Ogg will conduct the services.
Mr. Joslyn died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was 81.
He was born March 18, 1918, in O'Neill, Neb., to William Chandler and Mary Ellen (Lydon) Joslyn. He attended rural school near his parents farm north of O'Neill. When his mother died in 1929, he moved with his father and the rest of the family to a Campbell County homestead about 7 miles south of Gillette. After graduating from Campbell County high school, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Yellowstone Park.
He married Iris E. Strom on July 3, 1943, in Custer, S.D., and worked on ranches in Weston and Campbell counties. In 1952, he went to Greenland with a construction crew to help build the Thule Air Base, and when he returned, he worked for Campbell County for several years. In 1962, he took a job with Fulkerson Oil Co., form which he retired in 1980.
In his retirement, he was active with the Senior Citizens' Center, serving on the center's board for several years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, with whom he celebrated his 50th anniversary in 1993. She died in 1994.
Mr. Joslyn is survived by three daughters, Patricia Joslyn Harding of Simi Valley, CA, Bonita Joslyn of Gillette and Rhonda Joslyn Selvy of Coppell, TX; two sons, Lt.Col. (Ret.) Richard J. Joslyn Jr. of Nacogdoches, TX, and Donald R. Joslyn of Gillette; three sisters, Geraldine Reardon of Miles City, Gertrude Lytle of Sundance, and Lois Ann Boulden of Newcastle; brother James Joslyn of Gillette; and 10 grandchildren.
