EDGEWATER - Charles W. "Jack" Golden, 87, of Casa Grande, a New Smyrna Beach city commissioner from 1964 to 1968, died Saturday at Ocean View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Smyrna Beach. Mr. Golden, an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, came here in 1946 from his native Cumberland, Maryland. He was a real estate appraiser and worked for the Department of Transportation before his retirement in 1992. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of New Smyrna Beach, the Board of Realtors and the Bert Fish Hospital board of directors from 1969 to 1973. He also was a charter member of the New Smyrna Beach Lions Club, and a 50-year member of the American Legion Post 17.
Survivors include three sons, Jack Golden, New Smyrna Beach, Robert Golden, Gainesville, and Joe Golden, Newberry; stepson Bud Browning, Blairsville, Ga., two stepdaughters Linda Connell, Oak Hill, and Barbara Sanders, Dunellon; a sister, Naomi McKnight, Chattanooga, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Nola (Bennett) Golden in 1958. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.
