Sadly, no one ever carved Aaron's death date onto the Headstone, but I am thankful the WPA had it listed.

Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier", November 21, 1923:

Aaron Culbertson, a local Civil War veteran, died at his home, 538 South Sheridan Avenue, at 5 a.m. today. He was 89 years old. His wife, Erma [sic], and a son, Albert Culbertson of Bozeman, Mont. survive. Mr. Culbertson served with Company H, 47th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was with Sherman on his march to the sea. Mr. Culbertson was a member to J.M. Tuttle post, G.A.R., of this city. Funeral arrangements will be made later.

Funeral services for Aaron Culbertson, local Civil War veteran, who died at his home, 538 South Sheridan Avenue, at 5 o'clock yesterday morning, will be held at 1 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the home and at 1:30 o'clock in the Davis Street Christian Church, of which Mr. Culbertson was a member. The pastor, Rev. A.B. Book, will be in charge and burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Mr. Culbertson formerly operated a grocery store on the South side. His wife, Mrs. Erma [sic] Culbertson, survives, also a son, Albert Culbertson, who lives in Bozeman, Mont.
