Gladys Forchuk (nee Postoloski) of Lethbridge, formerly of Vauxhall, beloved wife of the late Peter Forchuk, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at the age of 78 years.
Gladys was born on September 21, 1928 in Coalhurst, Alberta, to Cassian and Minnie Postoloski. She was the second eldest of six children and lived most of her life on a farm in Vauxhall.
In October of 1946 she married Peter Forchuk who farmed six miles away so she didn't go very far away from the home farm. During the following years they had six children, five sons and one daughter.
Gladys is survived by son Peter Jr. of Edmonton; son Philip (Barbara) of Lethbridge and their daughters Jenn (her daughter Elizabeth) and Kristy; son Cyril (Marilyn) of Vauxhall and their son Nicholas; son Greg (Kim) of Taber and their children Brett and Taylor; granddaughter Tracey (Ian) Lardner of Red Deer and their two sons Bradley and Jason; grandson Dean (Devonee) Sininger of Sylvan Lake and their five daughters Brittany, Sierra, Ashlee, Alexa and Kaitlin; grandson Devin (Tara) Sininger of Red Deer and their four sons Logan, Gabriel, Gareth and Raiden and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one brother Ed (Brenda) Postoloski of Campbell River, B.C. and a sister Kathy (Ron) Friesen of Vauxhall. She was predeceased by her daughter Jenean January 1983, son Eugene January 1984, her husband Peter January 1996, her father and mother, two brothers and one sister.
Gladys had a great love for gardening, growing some of the largest vegetables and flowers in the area.
She was a member of the Willing Worker's Club for over 43 years, the Vauxhall Agriculture Society for over 40 years and was involved in starting up the Farmer's Market in Vauxhall. She was also a charter member of the Kinette Club of Vauxhall and spent many years involved in Minor Hockey.
Her family was very important to her, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She looked forward to the times they could all be together. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be sadly missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320-9 Street North, on Thursday, August 16, 2007 from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will be held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church on Friday, August 17 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Dr. Austin Fennell officiating. Burial to follow in the Vauxhall Cemetery.
