Conrad was born November 19, 1897, in Wilkin County, Minnesota, to Martin E. and Birgitte (Nilsdatter) Bjerke, Norwegian immigrants. He became a member of the Watterberg family in June 1898 on the day his mother died. Lotta Watterberg went to the home knowing the mother had been sick—she had died. Lotta came home wheeling the baby in his buggy. He grew up speaking Swedish.

Conrad T. Watterberg, longtime Brush Prairie farmer, died Friday at his home at 12203 NE 151st St. He was 76.

Born Nov. 19, 1897, in Wolverton, Minn., he had lived in the Brush Prairie area 31 years. He was a charter member of the Battle Ground Baptist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Edna; two sons, the Rev. Russell Watterberg of Ocean Park and Lance Watterberg of Mulino, Ore.; a daughter, Mrs. Duane (Myra) Gilchrist of Silverton, Ore.; four sisters, Mrs. Ed (Mary) Larson of Brush Prairie, Miss Sarah Watterberg of New Town, N.D., Mrs. Louise Sullivan of Minot, N.D., and Mrs. Beatrice (Bjerke) Leonard of Minneapolis, Minn.

Funeral is to be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Battle Ground Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Firebaugh officiating. Vault interment is to follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Battle Ground Baptist Memorial Fund. Layne's Battle Ground Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
