Throckmorton

Word has been received of the death of Dr. Raymond Throckmorton, 92, a native of Greene County who became one of the nation's most noted agronomists during his teaching career of several years in the Kansas State University school of agriculture in Manhattan, Kan.

His death occurred January 26, 1979, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Junction City, Kan., after a prolonged illness, according to word received by his brother, John T. Throckmorton, of Sycamore R.D. 1.

Dr. Throckmorton was born on the family farm a short distance north of East View. He received his early schooling in Greene County, and was graduated from Pennsylvania State College, after which he started a career in teaching and plant research in Kansas.

All of his professional career was spent in Kansas, where his scholarly achievements became a part of the wheat belt's agricultural history.

Dr. Throckmorton was preceded in death seven years ago by his wife, Marcia Story Throckmorton.

He is survived by one son, Ray, of Clarendon Hills, Illinois; two daughters, Marcia P. Wright of Boyer, Texas, and Celesta Logan of Manhattan, Kan., nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and his brother, John, of Sycamore, R.D. 1.

Three brothers C. L., Harland and Guy R. preceded him in death.
