BLOOMINGDALE, Ga. - O'dell James Scruggs Sr. of Bloomingdale, a retired Army National Guard brigadier general, died of heart failure Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was 69.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Rothwell Baptist Church in Pooler with burial at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
Surviving are his wife, Nita Dowd Scruggs of Bloomingdale; two sons, O'dell J. Scruggs Jr. of Atlanta and Larry Townsend of Jacksonville, Fla.; six daughters, Janie Lively of Bloomingdale, Patricia Moore of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Jody Scruggs of Savannah, Debra Sellers of Norcross, Jennifer D. Boggess of Savannah and Balinda Dowd of Atlanta; two sisters, Earline Prothero of Pooler and Uldine Lawson of Guyton; 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
