Ludvig Pedersen Norbye was born on the Rønsberg farm in Selbu, the fifth child of Peder Jensen Norbye and his first wife Mali Larsdatter Elverum. Mali died about two years after Ludvig was born and Ludvig was sent to live with his grandmother and his mother's brother. Peder married Mali's sister, IverAnna and they had an additional 6 children. Peder sent for Ludvig to return and help with his business, which Ludvig did until his father's death in 1888. At that time, Ludvig left Norway and traveled to Norman County, MN to stay with his aunt, Anne Norbye Serum. He attended various schools in MN and ND and later taught at a county school near Grand Forks. He met Alvilda Burtness at that school where she was a student. On 17 Jun 1899 they were married in Mekinock, ND.

After their marriage they built a home in Pelan, MN where he homesteaded land. Ludvig later rented out his farm and traveled as a salesman for the J. R. Watkins Medical Company of Winona, MN, one of the first patent medicine companies in the United States. They lived in Donnelly, Morris and Alberta, MN and had three girls and one son and also adopted a 12 year old girl from the Children's Home in St. Paul in about 1911. Ludvig took an active part in church business and in prohibition and was one of the leading men in the work to lock the saloons in Stevens County in 1915. Alvilda died in 1927 and was buried 29 Mar in Summit Cemetery.

On 2 Aug 1928 in Fillmore County, Ludvig married Elma Christiansen, the widow of Jacob Johnson. After Ludvig's death in 1935, she returned to Rushford and lived there until her death at 97 years of age.
