Viola E. Gruber, age 89, formerly of 1019 N. 16th St., Manitowoc, died early Sunday morning, February 2, 1997, at Park Lawn Home, Manitowoc.Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 1997, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2426 N. Rapids Road, Manitowoc. Rev. Dennis L. Broehm will officiate with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Due to renovation at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, the services are being held at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.She was born May 19, 1907, in the township of Gibson, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Otto and Emma Kasten Mueller. She grew up and was educated in the Maribel area. She married Erwin L. Gruber October 8, 1930, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. She and her husband farmed in the Francis Creek area until 1955 when they retired and moved to Manitowoc. She is a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.Surviving children include Delores and John Scheurell, Waukesha, and their children, Debbie Uecker and Dennis Scheurell, Robert and Pamela Gruber, Manitowoc, and their children, John Gruber and Shari Nussbaum, Carol and Jack Gordon, Puyallup, Wash., and their children, Robert, Jason and Pamela Gordon, Marlene and Peter Wagner, Elkhart Lake, and their daughter, Laura VanInWagen; four great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Alissa Uecker, Jessica VanInWagen, Rachel Gordon; one brother and sister-in-law, Reinhold (Bud) and Mildred Mueller, Manitowoc; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Leona Nickels, Manitowoc, Nora and Marvin Schultz, Manitowoc, Arlene Gates, Stuart, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Rose Mueller, Manitowoc, Mae Mueller, Texas. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin Gruber, March 22, 1980, an infant daughter, Dorothy, and three grandchildren, Jeffery and Patricia Wagner, and David Scheurell; five brothers, Fred, William, Arthur, Earl and Arnold Mueller; one sister, Adela Giese.Relatives and friends may call at Reinbold & Pfeffer Family funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 6-8 p.m. Monday (TONIGHT) and Tuesday at church from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.Memorials would be appreciated to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund.
