He was the son of James and Mathilda (Hiebert) Sampson. On Sep 30, 1950, he married Elizabeth 'Bett' Kelley, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are four sons: David, Minster, and James (Carla), Hohn (Kathy) and Patrick (Cathy), all St. Marys; three daughters: Ruth (Dean) Wale and Julie (James) Hollman, both St. Marys, and Anna (Kevin) Katterhenry, Celina; three brothers: Merle (Mary), Swanton, George (Charlotte), Greenfield, and Albert (Cathy), Dublin; four sisters: Jean Young, Van Wert, Thelma Houser, Mendon, Tillie Washburn, St. Marys, and Shirley (Clay) Davis, Lima; a sister-in-law, Ruth Fink, St. Marys; and sixteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a son, Michael; and a brother, Bernard (Mary).
He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, St. Marys. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He was an avid gardener, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Funeral rites will be at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, with the Reverend Barry Stechschulte officiating.
