Dolores McKinney died October 16, 2012. She was 87 years old, and a long-time resident of Ferndale, MI. Dolores was born Jan. 26, 1925 in Williamsburg, KY to Ancil and Mary Parks.

Dolores moved to Akron, OH in 1943 after graduating from high school in her home town. She was a real life "Rosie the Riveter" as she assisted the war effort working in an aircraft factory. Dolores also met her future husband, Wallace McKinney, at the factory in Akron. They coincidentally shared the same birth date, one year apart. Dolores and her young family then moved to Detroit, MI, eventually settling in Ferndale. She became a beautician, and operated a beauty shop out of her home for many years. Dolores then worked at Beaumont Hospital for 15 years before retiring in 1988.

Dolores absolutely loved being a mother and grandmother. Family was the clear number one priority in her life. She also had many friends, and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a wonderful person because she always thought of others before herself. Dolores was often referred to as "the sweetest person ever".

Dolores was the loving wife of the late Wallace; beloved mother of Jeff and the late Beverly Hopcroft; devoted grandmother of Lisa Hopcroft. One of eleven siblings, she is survived by Dorothy Cox and Ancil Parks, Jr.

Funeral service Saturday 11a.m. at A.J. Desmond and Sons (Vasu, Rodgers, & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward (btwn 13-14 Mile) with the Rev. Charles Whitfield presiding. Family will receive friends Friday 2-8p.m.
