Asa G. Wells, 69 Is Stricken Here
Asa Garfield Wells, 69, retired merchant, died unexpectedly at his home on the Old Wilson road late Monday afternoon. He had been in ill health some time but his death was unexpected.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 0'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Second Presbyterian Church of which the deceased was a member. The Rev. Ellis L. Oakes, pastor, will be in charge. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 2 0'clock Wednesday afternoon until time for the funeral.
Mr Wells was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, but had lived in this section for the last 28 years. He operated a garage and store on Cokey Road for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hattie Jones Wells, two sons, W. E. Wells of Rocky Mount and G. W. Wells of Portsmouth, and three daughters, Mrs. H. R. Harrell and Mrs. G. M. Sullivan, both of Rocky Mount and Mrs. C. T. Spencer of Raleigh; one brother, Alex Wells of Leeds, Ala; one sister, Mrs. Ella Scates of Knoxville and 13 grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the funeral Wednesday will be D. C. Mariott, M. L. Mouzon, D. L. Henry, B.A.Williams, G. F. Dawes and G. R. Proctor.
