George came from a line of coal miners. One of his grandfather's David R Shorthilll, was a coal-miner turned gold-miner. (David's history can be found in Livingston Montana). He was one of the first three gold-strikers to hit gold in Emigrant Gulch, Montana, in paying quantities.
George married Matilda Morris on August 25th 1904 in Morris Pennsylvania. They had at least three children.
George lived in Altoona at 324 Fourth Avenue and worked as a Car Builder for the Pennsylvania Rail Road Shops. He passed away at the Altoona Hospital of heart failure.
