Waverly Kansas Newpaper 8 Feb 1923:
"A.R. Chesnut died of pneumonia at his home in Ottawa where he had lived for the past 16 years after a short illness. Mr. Chesnut was born in Indiana in 1852 where he was married to Miss Alice Elizabeth Hawkins in 1876 and in the following years Mrs. Chesnut died and in 1888 he was married to Sarah Alice Baker in Waverly, who survives him. Beside the wife, he is survived by two sons, and three daughters, Mrs. R.B. Brown of Mt. Vernon, Washington, Mrs. R.M. Abraham of Eugene, Oregon, Mrs. O.M. Nutt of Waverly, O.F. Chesnut of Seattle, Washington & Earl Chesnut of Ottawa and by seven grandchildren. Mr. Chesnut was member of the Methodist Church. The funeral was conducted at Waverly, Tuesday afternoon from the home of his daughter Mrs. O.M. Nutt and burial was in the Waverly Cemetery."

"The death of Absolom Renfro Chesnut occured Monday morning of last week at 1024 S. Cedar St., Ottawa. Mr Chesnut had been ill nine days. Death resulted from pneumonia.
Mr. Chesnut was born in Lyons (should be Greene County), Indiana, April 15 1852. In 1876 he was married to Miss Alice Elizabeth Hawkins in Bloomington, Indiana. Mrs Chesnut died in 1887 (should be 1888). In 1888 he was united in marriage to Sarah Alice Baker at Waverly. Mr. Chesnut moved from Waverly to Ottawa about sixteen years ago and engaged in the real estate business.
Besides the wife, he is survived by three daughters and two sons, Mrs. R.B. Brown, Mt. Vernon, Washington, Mrs. R.M. Abraham, Eugene, Oregon, Mrs. O.M. Nutt, Waverly; Oscar F. Chesnut Seattle, Washington & Earl Chesnut of Ottawa, and by seven grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. B.B. Phillips died in 1918.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist Church with Rev. E.H. Tinnshill in charge. All the children were able to attend the funeral"
