Hattie Kampfer, age 96, of Chilton Health and Rehabilitation Center, Chilton, died peacefully of natural causes on Thursday, July 4, 2002 at the nursing home where she had been a resident for two years.
She was born on May 1, 1906 in the town of Stockbridge, daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Mainz) Grenzer. She attended grade school in Kloten and in November of 1928 she married Joseph Kampfer. The couple farmed all their working lives on the Kampfer Homestead Farm near Chilton.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton, the Christian Mothers, and the Mission Society where she was very active working on the quilting program, and in her later years found great pleasure in going out for breakfast and lunch with her friends.
She is survived by two sons; Richard (Renata) Kampfer of Naples, Fla., Donald (Lila) Kampfer of Chilton; six grandchildren, Steve, Lenexa, Kansas; and Kay Poth of Elkhart Lake; Laura Meier of Chilton; Traci Ecker of Stockbridge; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lodes of Manitowoc. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Kampfer; four brothers, Gregory, Henry, John and Ambrose Grenzer, and two sisters, Cecelia Diedrich and Veronica Breckheimer.
Funeral services were held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton, the Rev. Gary New S.D.S. as officiant. Burial followed in the parish cemetery.
