Leona Clara Karls age 89 of 315 Memorial Dr., Chilton, died on Friday June 7, 2002 at Chilton Health and Rehabilitation Center in Chilton.
She was born April 12, 1913, daughter of the late Joseph and Regina (Kolbe) Muellenbach.
Leona married John H. Karls on Oct. 22, 1935 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Charlesburg. Leona farmed with her husband in the Town of Brothertown until their retirement and moving to Chilton in 1985.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton, the Christian Mothers, Mission Society, Catholic Knights, and was a past member of the Eagles Auxiliary of Chilton.
Leona is survived by her devoted husband John who cared for her for many years during her illness; five children; Herbert (Betty) Karls of Chilton, Ralph (Rosemary) Karls of Chilton, Leander (Betty) Karls of Kiel, Mary Ann (Paul) Daun of Charlesburg, and Helen (Donald) Hanke of Chilton; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; one sister, Martha (Clarence) Geiser; two sisters-in-law, Bertilla Muellenbach and Marie Karls; one brother-in-law, Norman (Hildegard) Karls and a dear friend, Margie Freund.
She was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Victor Heinzen; two brothers, Frank and John Muellenbach; and two sisters, Veronica (Ed) Karls and Mary Muellenbach.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2002 at St. Mary Catholic Church In Chilton with the Rev. Glen Sayers S.D.S. will officiating. Burial will be in Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home, 411 W. Main St., Chilton, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, and on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. There will be a parish prayer service Sunday evening at 6 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff at Chilton Health & Rehabilitation Center in Chilton and the Calumet Medical Certter for the care given to her. A Memorial Fund has been established in the name of Leona Karls.
