Bernice E. (Check) Bembenek age 90, of Stevens Point passed away November 5, 2012 at Sylvan Crossings Assisted Living and Memory Care under the care of Ministry Hospice, her two loving daughters were at her side. A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernice will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Polonia. Fr. Gregory Michaud will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of service Saturday at the church. Burial will follow the service in the parish cemetery. Shuda Funeral Service is assisting the family.

Bernice was born October 10, 1922 in the town of Stockton, she was the 13th child out of 14 of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Kirshling) Check. She attended local schools. Bernice was joined in marriage to Chester A. Bembenek, on November 28, 1942 at Sacred Heart Parish in Polonia, He preceded her in death on July 12, 2012. The couple settled in Stevens Point until moving to Wausau in 1961. After her husband's retirement in 1979, the couple returned to the Stevens Point area. She enjoyed her family especially her grandchildren, making Sunday chicken dinners for all and baking her famous sweet rolls, breads and ponczkas. Bernice was a consummate care giver throughout her life, caring for her parents to her grandchildren, she will be greatly missed.

Bernice is survived by her five children: Chester (Elsie) Bembenek, Wausau; Larry Bembenek, Green Bay; Daniel (Holly) Bembenek, Custer; Mary (Gene) Plamann, Antigo; Jeanne (Steven) Regnier, Plover. 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson, She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 daughter-in-law, 1 great granddaughter, 6 sisters and 7 brothers.
