Edward J. Check, age 77, of 1239 S. 25th St., Manitowoc, died Saturday, June 27, 1992, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 1, 1992, at 9:30 a.m. at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, and 10 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Presiding the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. John Puodziunas O.F.M. with burial to follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Manitowoc. Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by the V.F.W. Otto Oas Post 659.

He was born March 15, 1915, in Custer, Wis., son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Kirschling Check. He married the former Grace Schultz on February 15, 1941, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He served as a veteran of World War II with the United States Army in the Pacific Theater. Upon returning from military service to Manitowoc, he then became employed with the N. Check Construction Co. as a carpenter. In 1966 he became self-employed as the owner and operator of the Ed. Check Builders, until his retirement in 1980. During his retirement he worked on furniture and various projects for family and friends, planted and maintained huge gardens, enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Check was a member of the Master Builders Association and the V.F.W. Otto Oas Post 659, Manitowoc.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Check of Manitowoc; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Michael and Judy Check, Manitowoc, Patrick and Cindy Check, Manitowoc, John and Patty Check, Manitowoc, Edward Check Jr. of Madison, William and Connie Check, Manitowoc; also surviving one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou and Corey Eggert of Milwaukee; 10 grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Charles and Helen Check, Manitowoc, Leonard Check, Custer, Wis., Mrs. Sally Check of Manitowoc, and Mrs. Anna Check of Manitowoc; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Regina Spitza of Milwaukee, Sarah Spitza of Milwaukee, Theresa Thru of Custer, Wis., Tillie and Stanley Blarek of Brokaw, Wis., Bernice and Chester Bembnek of Stevens Point, and Leonard Cherek of Milwaukee; also surviving are many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Newphrey, Frank, August, and Steve Check; two sisters, Margaret, and Balvina Cherek.

Friends may call at the Pfeffer Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-9 p.m. where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.
