Harry Hale was the youngest son of Lt. Col. Nathan and Abigail (Grout) Hale. Phebe (Adams) Hale was his 1st wife. They were married in 1802 and she died January 13, 1815. They had 11 children. Lucinda (Eddy) Hale was his 2nd wife. They were married November 14, 1815 and she died August 1, 1871. They had 7 children.

In 1828, 1832 and 1836 Harry represented Chelsea in the Vermont State Legislature. In 1876 in the Congregational Church of Chelsea a stained glass memorial window was placed in the rear of the pulpit. It described Harry as "Foremost among those who built this house to the worship of God, 1810."
