Raymond H. Bergan — LeRoy

Funeral services for Raymond H. Bergan will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at the LeRoy Lutheran Church in LeRoy, with the Rev Herman Bakker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church Thursday.

Raymond H. Bergan, 93, a longtime LeRoy area farmer, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at the Spring Valley Senior Living where he had resided for about a year.

Raymond Howard Bergan was born July 8, 1919, at Forest City, Iowa, to Oscar and Matilda (Jass) Bergan, he attended school through the 10th grade and moved to the LeRoy area in 1936. During the war he built bombs, he worked as a mechanic and for Oliver in Charles City, Iowa. Ray later started farming which he did until his retirement in 2005. Ray was united in marriage to Ruth Kulsrud on Dec. 27, 1952, at the LeRoy Lutheran Church.

He was very active in the LeRoy Lutheran Church, serving on the church board, the cemetery board and serving as the head usher for many years. Ray also served on the school board for LeRoy-Ostrander District 499. He was a wonderful husband and loving father who will be missed by all.

Ray is survived by his wife, Ruth of LeRoy; children, Brian (Peggy) Bergan of LeRoy, Jayne (J.J.) Sims of Bloomington and Jon (Deanna) Bergan of LeRoy; four grandchildren, Jill, J.R., Miranda and Lindsay; and one brother, Lester (Marlene) Bergan of Chatfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Laurine Bergland and two brothers, Curtis and Ronald.

The family would like to thank the Spring Valley Senior Living for the wonderful care their dad received the last 11 months of his life.
