Mrs. Bergland, 84, of LeRoy, a former clothing store owner, died Sunday on Bainbridge Island, Wash.
Laurine Viola Bergan was born Jan. 23, 1917, in Forest City, Iowa. She attended country schools through the eighth grade and moved to the LeRoy area with her family in 1936. On June 10, 1943, she married Adolph Bergland at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Her husband farmed and operated a bulk oil business for six years. The couple operated a clothing store in LeRoy for 25 years before their retirement in 1978. Her husband died in 1980. Mrs. Bergland was active in LeRoy Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed quilting, needlework, gardening, flower arranging and visiting people in area nursing homes.
Survivors include a son, Dale (Karen) of Warrington, Pa.; two daughters, Ilene (Steve) Unruch of Bainbridge, Island, Wash., and Corinne (Jurgen) Becker of Holland, Mich.; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Ray (Ruth) Bergan of LeRoy and Lester (Marlene) Bergan of Chatfield. Two brothers preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
