Jean Houston, a Placerville resident, died Oct. 25, 1999 at the age of 73.She was born Sept. 11, 1926 in Detroit, Mich. She was a loving woman with a good sense of humor. She expressed her artistic nature through oil painting and poetry. Mrs. Houston delighted in restoring an old Victorian house in Grass Valley. She loved antiques, good conversation, traveling in her Airstream across the U.S. and Mexico and her Irish setter, Shane. She is survived by her husband, Purnell "Pernie" Houston, her daughters Deborah Selmyhr and Gwendolyn Douglas, her brother Wallace Adkins, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Private services will be held. Interment will be at Green Valley Cemetery.
