Ryburn Brewer was born April 28, 1914 in Carbondale to Fred Hillory and Cora Lue Dewey Brewer. He has one sister, Mary Curlee of Cambria. A brother, Carl Brewer, preceded him in death.

He married Alta B. Sooter. She died Dec. 5, 1977. He married Ruth Howell on June 23, 1984, in Herrin. She survives. Two stepdaughters survive -- Peggy Bagley and Marylyn Schmitto, both of Carbondale.

Mr. Brewer was a retired lieutenant commander for the Navy and also was retired from construction and farming. He was a member of the Elks, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Herrin, and Libertyville Masonic Lodge 492.

Mr. Brewer died at the age of 73 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Marion.
