Pfc. Hewins, who was 28 years old, is one of seven sons in the service of Fred Hewins. He entered the service April 3, 1944 and has been serving overseas since August. A member of the 4th Marine Division this was his first combat duty. He received his training here in the States at Parris Island, S.C. and Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Prior to entering the service he was employed by the Native Lace Works, Hightstown, N.J. He was a member of the Langhorne Methodist Church, The Young Adult Fellowship and the South Langhorne Fire Co.
In addition to his wife and father he is survived by a 3 year old son, Donald Frederick; and two brothers and two sisters who reside in South Langhorne and a sister who is in England. Of the six brothers in service, three have been wounded in action; Pfc Robert Hewins, having been wounded twice. This occurred in the European area where also Pfc. Ernest Hewins and Pfc. Christopher Hewins were wounded. The other brothers are Master Sgt. Fred Hewins Jr. who is with the army air corps; Pfc. Edmund Hewins, with an army medical division, and Pfc. Charles Hewins, in the army signal service. All are overseas.
A memorial service for Pfc. Hewins will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the Chapel at the Langhorne Methodist Church. The new chapel was recently dedicated to the boys from the church in the service.
