Charles Hewins Sr., 88, of Hightstown, passed away Sunday at the University Medical Center at Princeton.

Born in Penndel, Pa., he was a longtime resident of Hightstown. Mr. Hewins served in the Armed Forces in the Aleutian Islands during World War II.

He began working for Native Lace in Hightstown where he met the love of his life, Jeannette Carol Marple. Charles and Jeannette settled in Hightstown where they built their home and raised their large family. After working at the Lace Mill, Charles was employed by Mettler Toledo until his retirement in 1989.

Charles was a member of the Hightstown VFW, and a former Boy Scout leader for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and fixing things that did not need fixing. He loved fishing and playing pool with his lifelong buddies.

Since his retirement, Charles had enjoyed being a fan and supporter of his grandchildren, attending countless athletic events, concerts and plays.

Predeceased by his wife, Jeannette, and son, Charles Hewins Jr., he is survived by his children, son, Richard Hewins of Manchester, son, David Hewins and his wife Carole Ann of Hightstown, daughter, Carol Catterton and her husband Robert of Virginia, son, Paul Hewins of Plainsboro, daughter, Bonnie Bixby and her husband Kevin of North Carolina, son, Mark Hewins of Hamilton, and son, Michael Hewins and his wife Michelle of Arizona; grandchildren, Mitana Torres, Liza Hewins, Richard Hewins Jr., Jennifer Hewins, Robert Catterton III, Anthony Oliver, Emily Hewins, Jason Bixby, Brandon Bixby and Jeannie Catterton; five great-grandchildren and one on the way.
