Austin Elmer Cassell, 68, of 1267 Westover Drive, Collinsville, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at his home.
He was born March 3, 1932 in Patrick County, son of the late Maggie Knowles Cassell and the late Elder Edgar Cassell. He was owner and operator of Elmer Cassell's Garage for 24 years and of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Tootsie Smith Cassell of the home; three daughters, Carolyn Pereira of Tallahassee, Fla., Cheryl Gandy of Surfside Beach, S.C., and Robin Hartley of Collinsville; two brothers, James Cassell of Meadows of Dan and Pastor Fredrick Cassell of Hillsville; four sisters, Lessie Thomas of Seaford, Dovie Legus of Richmond, Frances Hines of Birmingham, Ala., and Goldie "Tootsie" Pilson of Vesta; one granddaughter; two grandsons; three step-grandsons; one step-granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Fredrick Cassell officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., just before the service, and other times at the home, 1267 Westover Drive, Collinsville.
