He was born October 19, 1916, in Manitowoc, son of the late Walter and Mary Pokorsky Derus. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School, class of 1936. He then served in the United States ARMY during World War II, serving in Germany.
He married the former Roxana Johnson on December 27, 1943, in Dubuque, Iowa. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding Anniversary December 27, 1993.
Mr. Derus was a steamfitter with the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company and at various nuclear plants throughout his career. He was a 50 year member of Local 298 Plumbers and Steamfitters of Green Bay. He was a 50 year member of Eagles Aerie #7067, where he was past president and served as secretary for 10 years. Mr. Derus was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a life member of Otto Oas Post #659.
Survivors include his wife, Roxana Derus, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Linda Derus, Menomonee Falls, Wis.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Richard Reimer, Littleton, Colo., Margaret Derus and Daniel Mork, Shorewood, Wis., Marilyn and James Dalton, Westby, Wis.; one sister and brother-in-law, Gertrude and Arthur Bachmann, Manitowoc; eight grandchildren, Robert, Donald and Michelle Reimer, Ryan and Nicholas Derus, Charles, John and Elisabeth Dalton. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Alex.
Friends may call at the Pfeffer Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday morning at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. There will be a prayer service Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. by Deacon Robert Drobka followed by the Eagles Memorial Service.
