Henry L. Pleuss, 66, of 2124 Hwy. 42, Manitowoc, died Tuesday, July 26, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Bruce W. Hanstedt will officiate with the eulogy given by Mr. Pleuss’ son, Roger L. Pleuss, and entombment will be in Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Town of Kossuth.
Mr. Pleuss was born Sept. 7, 1916, at Manitowoc Rapids, son of the late Henry and Anna Schrank Pleuss. He attended the Manitowoc School System, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1933. He then attended Manitowoc County Normal Teachers College, graduating in 1935. He taught in rural Manitowoc schools.
He married Dolores Bartel in 1942. She preceded him in death in 1942. He then married Florene Thompson, June 6, 1945, at Valders.
On Jan. 1, 1942, Mr. Pleuss started with Manitowoc County Traffic Department which he continued with for 31 years. He then retired in 1973 as chief of Manitowoc County Traffic Department. During his years with the department he received many distinguished awards. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, a former deacon of the church, a catechist in the church and a Sunday school teacher. He held numerous life memberships in various police associations.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Henry G. and Karen Pleuss, Jr. of Wausau, Roger L. and Patricia Pleuss of Wauwatosa, and James H. Pleuss of Manitowoc, a daughter, Sharon A. Eacho of Mequon; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Harvey Pleuss of Manitowoc, and Erwin and Marie Pleuss of Florida; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Elsie and Elmer Grosshuesch, Mrs. Anna Baryenbruch, Mrs. Irene Baryenbruch, Viola and Norbert Rusch and Bernice and Edward Kreil of Manitowoc; two grandchildren, Erik and Amy Pleuss, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Raymond, and two sisters, Erna Haupt and Linda Vogt.
Friends may call at Parkside Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 5 o’clock to 9 o’clock this Wednesday evening and 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, and at the church from noon until the time of services. Memorials are appreciated to First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc.
