From Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home:

Mary Ann Abreo Ficke went to be with Jesus on Monday, January 21, 2013, after a long fight battling cancer. She was 62 years old. She was born in Big Spring, TX to Domingo and Luz Abreo on September 3, 1950. She is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Hope DaSilva and Fe Acosta; and her brother, Salvador Abreo.

Mary Ann met her husband and best friend, Kenneth, on a blind date when he was stationed at Webb Air Force Base in Big Spring. When Kenneth went to Italy, they corresponded by letter and became engaged through those letters. They were married August 10, 1969, at La Fe Baptist in Big Spring. They spent most of their married life in Big Spring.

Everyone around Mary Ann knew her faith was her priority. She was an inspiration to many. She played the piano at La Fe Baptist for over 40 years. After moving to Boerne, she became involved at First Baptist Church leading Bible Studies and volunteering. Mary Ann's optimism, energy, and quick wit are what endeared her to others. She was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother. What Mary Ann will be remembered most for is her zeal for God!

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Kenneth Ficke of Boerne; her daughter Gina Kimberly and husband John of Coahoma, TX; her son Christopher Ficke and wife Christie of Catonsville, MD; her sisters Gloria Galan of Big Spring and Mary Elizabeth Rainey of Boerne; and her brothers Noe Abreo of Lubbock, Efren Abreo of Austin, David Abreo of Ft. Worth, and Jimmy Abreo of Big Spring. Mary Ann treasured her wonderful grandchildren: Matthew, Angela, Kenan, Brit, Blake, and Brooks.
