In 1969, he began his career at the Big Spring VA Medical Center.

In 1972, Jimmy married Eloisa Recio of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Jimmy was a multi-talented well-rounded musician with the stellar ability to play a multitude of instruments ranging from: guitar, piano, saxophone, violin, and trumpet. With the voice of a mariachi.
