PITTSFIELD, BERKSHIRE Co., MA - Mr. George Cleveland Snyder ( 89y ) d: January 12, 2000 - formerly of Windsor Avenue, died yesterday afternoon at the Craneville Place of Dalton. Born in Pittsfield on July 27, 1910, son of James H. and Jessie Porter Snyder, he attended Dalton schools. He attended the barber school in Albany, NY., and returned to this area open his own barber shop on Tyler Street. Mr. Snyder enlisted in the Navy at the age of 32 and served aboard the Carrier, USS Cabot in the South Pacific from June 1943 until his discharge in September 1945. After his service, he returned to his barber shop for more than 30 years. He retired in 1975. Mr. Snyder was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and enjoyed hunting. A singer, he enjoyed signing with the Berkshire Hillsmen as well as several area bands. His wife, of 65 years, the former Mary E. "Betty" Cullen, whom he married Feb 27, 1933, died June 23, 1998. He leaves two brothers, Charles B. Snyder of Lanesboro and Robert A. Snyder of Dalton; two sisters, Evelyn M. Hilton of Fort Lauderdale, FL., and Mrs. Harriet S. Bulter of Dalton. jar END:
