Robert Snyder Obituary

DALTON -- Robert A. Snyder, 76, of 77 Gulf Road died Friday at home after a long illness.

Born in Dalton on Nov. 12, 1928, son of James and Jesse Snyder, he was a 1946 graduate of the former Dalton High School.

He enlisted in the Army in 1951, serving two years in the 1st Army Honor Guard at Governors Island, N.Y., and was a member of an honor guard for Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

After the service, Mr. Snyder graduated from Vaughn Barber School.

In 1957, he purchased a barbershop, naming it Bob's Barber Shop. He operated it for many years. Later, he worked for the currency division of Crane & Co., retiring in 1993.

He had been a member of First Congregational Church since 1952 and served in various capacities. A golfer, he was a longtime member of Wahconah Country Club and served on its board of directors. He also was a member of the Dalton Rod and Gun Club for many years and enjoyed hunting.

His wife, the former Dianne Shuster, whom he married Sept. 2, 1952, died Oct. 9, 1993.

He leaves a son, James R. Snyder of Dalton; three daughters, Donna L. Miner of Melrose, Debora D.S. Kovacs of Dalton and Sandra J.S. Vosburgh of Pittsfield; two sisters, Harriet Butler of Dalton and Evelyn Hilton of Weston, Fla., and 10 grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Calling hours for Robert A. Snyder will be tomorrow, June 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. A service of thanksgiving will be conducted Wednesday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church, Dalton, by the Rev. Robert Kyte, pastor. Burial will be in Ashuelot Cemetery.

"Bob" will be greatly missed by his family and friends, including his three loving sons-in-law, John Kovacs of Dalton, Ronald D. Miner of Melrose and Mark E. Vosburgh of Pittsfield; and grandchildren Jessica, Katelyn, Ryan and Joseph Kovacs, Robert and Samantha Snyder, Michael and Alexandra Miner, and Peter and Cassandra Vosburgh. He also leaves his good friend Bertha Keen of Pittsfield. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and loved music and Cape Cod.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the funeral home 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
