Mary was the daughter of Elias Hardin Williams Sr (1770-1853) and Mary "Polly" Boynton Williams (1773-1850). The Williams family arrived in America when Robert (b 1593) and Elizabeth Stalham Williams (b 1597) came on the Rose from England with three children in 1637. Her parents came to Sangamon County in 1822
Mary married Richard E Barker about 1824 and had one son (George) Elias Barker (1824-1873). Many trees in Ancestry and My Heritage have his first name as George but I have not found any documentation/source for that name. Richard left Sangamon county about 1827 after the first territorial school house where he taught burnt down. It is said he went to southern Illinois on business. He was not heard from again. Mary obtained a divorce.

Mary married second Andrew Johnson in Sangamon Co November 18, 1827. Mary and Andrew had three children:
John (1828-1905), Samuel (1831-1910), and Andrew (1833-1845) born after his father's death in 1832.

Mary married third Greenbury Baker Jan 9 1834. Some accounts say they had four children Mosses 1835, Thomas 1837, Squire Willis 1839 and Effie 1840. However, there is a lot of confusing data and mixing of the children of Greenbury's two wives Mary and Eliza. I have not found other records for Moses born 1835. However, according to the 1840 census living in Mary and Greenbury's household were boys: 1 under five, 1 five to ten, and 2 ten to fifteen; and girls 1 under five, 1 five to ten. Mary's sons with Andrew Johnson, John and Samuel, were 10-15--; their son Andrew was five to ten, and Mary and Greenbury's son William Moses was under five. Mary and Greenbury's daughter Effie was under five. There is not a living child or a known dead child that I have found to account for the girl five to ten.

Greenbury married Eliza Alexander Nov 7 1844. Thomas J, born 1843, is the oldest child of Greenbury and Eliza J and is the one who died in the Andersonville Prison during the Civil War. According to the Civil War enlistment records and the 1850 census Squire Willis, "S. Willis" was also born in 1843 thus a child of Eliza and possible twin of Thomas J. I am wondering if the marriage date is recorded incorrectly.

In the 1850 census Greenbury and Eliza are listed with a son William 12 and Effie 9, his children with Mary Williams Barker Johnson Baker. (Pvt William Moses 1838-1863 was accidentally shot or murdered during the Civil War in Memphis Tennessee and Effaline Lyons "Effie" Baker 1840-1921) married Joseph S. Prunk. Other children listed in the 1850 census are Esquire and Thomas age 7 and Polly age 3. This accounts for their children at that time. They had a son William born about 1854.

Mary is buried in the plot with her son Elias Barker and his daughter Margaret S Barker, Greenbury and his third wife Eliza Alexander Baker and her parents Jesse and Rebecca Alexander. Next to her are her parents Elias Hardin Williams Sr and Mary "Polly" Boynton Williams.
