Hein, Francis P.

Francis P. Hein, age 99, of 1428 North 21st Street, Manitowoc, entered eternal life Sunday afternoon, September 8, 2013 at his residence.

Francis was born November 17, 1913 in Manitowoc. He was the son of the late Phillip and Elizabeth Troust Hein. Francis was a graduate of Lincoln High School. He was employed with Manitowoc Shipbuilding and helped build submarines during World War II. He later became employed with Kelvinator Commercial Products from where he retired in 1976. On August 31, 1940 he married Dorothy M. Nitka at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. Francis was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where he had served as an usher for many years, member and past president of the Manitowoc Garden Club and was also a Boy Scout Master for many years. Francis took great pride in orchid growing and gave many demonstrations of grafting.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years: Dorothy; two sons and daughters-in-law: Roger and Vickie Hein, Greenfield, WI; Michael and Donna Hein, Bayside, WI; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three sisters: Annie Cerkas, Martha Linsmeier, and Dorothy Schmitz all of Manitowoc, WI; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Phillip and Elizabeth Hein; his son: Gene Francis Hein; and daughter-in-law, Joan (Collins) Hein; four brothers, three sisters, and one great granddaughter.

Memorial services will be held 12:00 p.m. noon on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. David Beaudry. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with burial of the cremains at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 o'clock noon.
