Peter Thielen, Eagles Leader, Dies At Valders

VALDERS —
Peter G. Thielen, 82, active in Fraternal Order of Eagles affairs on both the state and local level throughout his lifetime, died Wednesday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Death was attributed to a heart attack after surgery.

Thielen was a member of the Eagles for more than 50 years. He was a former state president and was a past president of the Manitowoc aerie.

Always civic minded, he retired a year ago after serving the Village of Valders as president for 10 years and was recently recognized by the Valders Lions Club, of which he was a charter member and past president, for his innumerable contributions to the welfare of the community.

Born in 1885
He was born Dec. 6, 1885, at Manitowoc, son of the late Joseph and Mary Malloch Thielen. He was manager of the old Orpheum Theater, the Capitol Theater, and the Manitowoc Opera House, then known as the Terrace Gardens, before taking over operation of a tavern at Valders. He married May Kock and she died in 1928, and on Aug. 11, 1937, he married Rose Glasow and she preceded him in death Dec. 9, 1963.

Besides his civic affiliations he was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary Church, Clarks Mills.

Survivors include three sons, Eugene of Valders, Lester of Marinette and George of Manitowoc; a daughter, Mrs. Baldo (Marie) Pucci, of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Clara Grun, of Kenosha; three step-daughters, Miss Ruth Glasow of Manitowoc; two step-sons, Randy of Park Forest, Ill., and Russell of Whitefish Bay; two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Eight brothers, two sisters and a daughter preceded him in death.

Funeral Friday
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Christiansen Funeral Home, Valders, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Church, Clarks Mills. The Rev. Leander Nickel will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Thursday where at 8 p.m. the Rosary will be recited.
