Lawrence (Pete) Christel, 65, of 716 Chicago St., Kiel, died Thursday afternoon shortly after being admitted to St. Nicholas Hospital.
He was born Dec. 5, 1913, in Valders, a son of Isadore and Ida Jergen Christel. He attended Holy Trinity Parochial School at School Hill. On Sept. 28, 1940 he married Dorothy Deskevich at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church, Kiel. The couple resided in Kiel since their marriage. Mr. Christel ws employed at the Christel's Department Store for 27 years until retiring in 1976. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Patricia) Wettstein of New Holstein and Mrs. Edward (Rachel) Theel of Route 1, New Holstein; a son Douglas, at home; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Biederwolf of Brillion and Mrs. Norman Orth of Kiel, and six brothers, Roman of rural Chilton, Arnold of New Holstein, Eugene F. and Raymond, both of Kiel, John of LaCrosse, and James of Manitowoc. Three brothers preceded him in death.
A private family funeral Mass will be at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel. The Rev. Francis Kerscher, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
