Arnold Christel, 83, of 2317 Pleasant Ave., New Holstein passed away Sunday, July 30, 1995, at the Appleton Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 2, 1911 in Valders, a son of the late Isadore and Ida Jerger Christel.
Arnold graduated from Brillion High School and attended St. Norbert College in DePere. Mr. Christel owned and operated the Christel Department Store in New Holstein for 20 years. After retiring he began a hobby of woodcarving wild fowl.
On Aug. 25, 1938 he married Lorraine Haensgen at Holy Rosary Catholic church in New Holstein. He was a member of Holy Rosary church and its Holy Name Society.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; three daughter, Marjorie Wendel, Fox Point; Doris Steffen, Grafton and Kathleen (Michael) Sullivan, Vienna, Va.; nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter; also five brothers, Roman, rural Chilton, Eugene and Raymond, both of Kiel; John, LaCrosse; and James, Reedsville. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, officiated by Father Patrick Lloyd. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
