Opal J. Holbrook, age 83, died Saturday, December 07, 2013 at 12:25 AM at Richland Manor, Bluffton, Ohio. She was born on March 28, 1930 outside of McGuffey,Ohio,to Edward and Susie (Allen) Poe and they preceded her in death. On October 18, 1947 she married Charles "Chuck" Holbrook and he died on September 2, 2009. Opal was a cook and co-owner of Holbrook's Homestyle Restaurant in Alger and retired as a cook for Upper Scioto Valley School. She was an active memberoftheAlgerMemorial Day Committee. Opal was a member of the McGuffey Church of Christand attended the Pandora Church of Christ. Her grandchildren were the center of her life and she had just received the news that she would be a great-grandmother. Surviving are a son, Steven (Kayleen) Holbrook of McGuffey; threegrandchildren:Steven Cody Holbrook of McGuffey, Lindsey Marie (Cody) Myers of Savannah,GA,and Sean Calder Holbrook of McGuffey; two brothers: John (Joeann) Poe of Lima and Carl (Charlotte) Poe of Ada; four sisters: Dorothy Garver of Lima, RubyNichols ofAlger,Mary Ann Daniels of Roundhead and Marsha (Randy) Phillips of Kenton. She was preceded in death by four brothers: Merlin Poe, Bobby Poe, Curtis Poeand Felix Poe; five sisters: Esther Poe, Lucille Salsbury, Shirley Biederman,FayePatton and Nancy Yoakam. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the McGuffey Church of Christ with Pastor Steven Holbrook officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger. Friends may call 4:00-8:00 PM on Monday, December 9, 2013, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the benevolence of the family, c/o Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, P.O. Box 41, Alger, Ohio 45812.
