He was born Aug. 8, 1925 in Prestonsburg, Ky. to Edward and Susie (Allen) Poe. On Feb. 5, 1949, he married Frances Myers in Alger and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert (Olivia) Poe of Upland, Calif., and Charles (Amy) Poe of Boston, Mass.; four daughters, Penny (Richard) Fout, Jean (Mr. Jackie Ruth) Hord, Tammy (Carl Ruddle) Ervin and Sue (John) Lowe, all of Kenton; a friend, Keith Clarey of Marion; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John and Carl Poe; nine sisters, Lucille Salusbury, Dorothy Garver, Faye Patton, Shirley Biederman, Opal Holbrook, Mary Daniels, Nancy Yoakam, Ruby Allen and Marsha Phillips and special friends, the Beaman family.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy Poe; three brothers; a sister; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild and his best buddy, Bill Beaman.
He worked for 60 years for Bill Beaman and the Beaman Family Farm.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II.
He was a life member of the Ada VFW and also a life member of Amvets Post 1994 in Kenton.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association of Lima.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Schindewolf Stevens Stout Funeral Home in Kenton by the Rev. Dennis Burns. Burial will be in the Preston Cemetery in Alger, where Amvets Post 1994 will conduct military services.
