Sister Florence Kane (formerly known as Sister Mary Fanchea), born July 9, 1921, in Stark, Wis., to the late Frances and William Kane, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012. Sister Florence entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1938 and was received into the novitiate in 1939. She earned a Masters Degree in Audiology from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., in 1956. Sister Florence spent over 70 years at the St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis, Mo. She taught deaf children for 20 years and then opened an Audiology Department and administered it for the next 20 years. She also volunteered at Nazareth Living Center to assist her fellow CSJ sisters and lay persons with their hearing aids. She retired to Nazareth Living Center in September, 2011, where she was involved in prayerful witness.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Katherine (Adolph) Herold, Sister Frances Kane; her brothers, John Kane, William (Hilda) Kane, Robert (Wilma) Kane; and brothers-in-law, Urban Titulaer and Henry Kane. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass and celebration of her life took place in St. Louis and in Green Bay at Odd Fellows Nursing Home. Sister Florence donated her body to St. Louis University Medical Center.
