OBITUARY ~ Melvin D Sykes Sr,77, of 112 Humiston St, Pontiac, died at 10:25pm Sunday (Dec 22,1985) at St James Hospital, Pontiac. His funeral will be at 2:30 today at First Lutheran Church, Pontiac, the Rev Craig Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Rowe cemetery, rural Pontiac. Visitation will be after 1pm at the church today. Raleigh J Harris Funer Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. He was born May 1,1908, at Kirksville,Mo., a son of Joseph R and Effie Sykes. He married Blanche Abraham on Feb 23,1935, at Rowe. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Melvin Jr, Pontiac; 3 daughters, Carol Hoggins, Judith Sykes and Sandra Pool, all of Pontiac; a sister Mrs Demarus Nichols, Pontiac; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A brother preceded him in death. Mr Sykes had lived in Pontiac 51 years, and had retired from Interlake Inc., Pontiacl He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Pontiac, and had been a licensed citizens band radio operator for 30 years.
