Blanche Virginia Sykes, 93, Pontiac, died at 2:22 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 9, 2009) at her residence.
She was born Feb. 3, 1916, in Pontiac, a daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Holzhauer Abraham. She married Melvin Delbert Sykes Sr. on Feb. 23, 1935, at Rowe. He preceded her in death Dec. 22, 1985.
She is survived by one son, Melvin (Judy) Sykes, and two daughters, Judy Sykes and Sandra Pool, all of Pontiac; eight grandchildren, Steve Sykes, Debbie (John) Clardy, Juli Poschard, Bryan (Andrea) Hoggins, Shannon (Gab) Vincent, Heidi (Joe) Kelly, Jody (Terry) Vaughan and Kristi (Robert) Becker; 18 great-grandchildren, Jessie, Amy, Travis, Kylie, Lisa, Jacob, Shiann, Magda, Jude, Haddie, James, Andrew, Carson, Sam, Riley, Courtney, Katie and Frannie and four great-great-grandchildren, Audrey, Adrianne, Kasey and Blake.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Carol Hoggins; one daughter-in-law, Marjorie Lowenthal; her sister, Verna Weakley and her brother, Ernie Abraham.
