Violet Rose, 93, of Mitchell, died April 22, 2014 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Her funeral service will be held April 25, 2014 at Jones Mortuary in Mitchell. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Scottsbluff. Violet was born January 12, 1921 in Falls City, NE to Robert and Blanche (Fillmer) Thorn. She attended school in Nebraska City and was a member of the Church of Christ. She married James "Tuck" Rose on May 14, 1938 in Rockport, MO. She lived in Callaway, Nebraska City and later moved to Mitchell in 1949.Violet enjoyed baking, ceramics, flowers, gardening; but especially loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She loved being a mother and grandmother. It was the joy of her life to be with her family and see them grow up. There was never a stranger in Violet's home and all the neighborhood children were always welcome and never went away hungry. She was a loving caregiver and will be missed by her family and friends.Violet is survived by her children Vivian (Ed) Donley of Bridgeport, David Rose and Mary (Claude) Ryan all of Mitchell; daughter in law Evelyn Rose of Bayard; special niece Carolyn Nelson; sisters Gladys Weston of Nehawka, NE and Doris Pierce of St. Joe, MO; sisters in law Fran Thorn and Lorraine Thorn; and all of her loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.Her parents, husband James, son Jim, one sister, five brothers and six grandchildren preceded her in death.
