Funeral services for Robert Ruben Thorne, 73, will be held at the Lett chapel here at 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. Robert Winger of the Christian church officiating and burial at Wyuka. Mr. Thorne died in Omaha Thursday of pneumonia following an operation to pin his broken left hip, sustained in a fall the day after his grandson was killed in an auto accident. The Harley Thorne family is en route from California to attend the services but the Violet Rose family, driving here from Mitchell, Neb., won't be able to make it. The Roses are hospitalized in Ogallala after their late model car breasted a hill and crashed into the rear of a truck last night near Lewellen. Mr. Rose sustained two broken legs, Mrs. Rose has severe lacerations and the two children have undetermined internal injuries. Mr. Thorne was born April 20, 1885, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cy Thorne. He lived most of his life here, farming south of town, except for a few years spent at Oconto and Scottsbluff. Recently he lived with Wayne at Union. Mr. Thorne's first wife, Blanche Filmer, died Feb. 2, 1929, in an auto accident near Broken Bow. His fourth wife, Laura York, whom he married in 1935, died May 14, 1958. He was a member of the Christian church. Surviving children are Kelly, Nehawka; Wayne, Union; Claude, city; LaVonne Paben and Violet Rose, Mitchell; Gladys Weston, Union; Sherman (his mother is Laura York), Lyman; Doris Pierce, St. Joseph; Harley, Richmond, Calif. Step-children include Bethel Rumery, Columbus; Eugene Rhoades, city; George and Lloyd Rhoades, Scottsbluff. Other survivors include a brother, Bert, Nevada City, Calif., and sisters, Mrs. Glen Lewis, Shubert; Mrs. Carrie O'Hara, Auburn; Mrs. Dwight Wagner, Omaha; Mrs. Lee DeVoris, Center, Colo., and Edna of Los Angeles.
