GILLETTE, Wyo. - Sherman Thorne, age 75, of Gillette, Wyo., died of natural causes Saturday June 4, at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 9 at Gillette Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

Funeral services for Sherman Thorne will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dan Holden of the First Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Gillette Memorial Chapel.

Sherman Thorne, age 75, of Gillette, Wyoming passed away of natural causes surrounded by his wife and family on Saturday June 4, 2011, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette.

Sherman was born April 7, 1936, the thirteenth child of Robert and Laura (York) Thorne in Nebraska City, Nebraska. In 1954 he married, Lorraine McLaughlin, the love of his life, in Lyman, Nebraska. Together the couple had five children. They moved to Gillette in 1975 and over the years Sherman was a farmer, a concrete worker, he worked for Campbell County Roads and Bridges and retired in 1998, after which he worked for Campbell County School District as a bus driver. Sherman played guitar and was in a band for many years. He was a long time member of the Eagles. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and gambling but most of all Sherman was a devoted family man.

Sherman is survived by Lorraine Thorne, his wife of 56 years, daughters: Dianne (Mike) McGuire of Alliance, Nebraska; Cindy (Tom) Suhr of Onalaska, Wisconsin; and Laura (Bart) Maxwell of Gillette, Wyoming; sons: Wayne Thorne of Gillette, Wyoming; Robert Thorne of Memphis, Tennessee; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters and a great-grandchild.
