Hubert Lee Aaron went to be with the Lord on June 2, 2014. He was surrounded by his children at different times during his last few days. Mr. Aaron was born on October 18, 1923, one of 16 children born to Jessie James and Winnie Ware Aaron. He served his country during World War II and was highly decorated for his service. He would fondly tell of James Arness (of Gunsmoke) being under him in one of his infantries, and he never minded anyone asking him to tell them of what it was like in the war. Right until his death, he could recount dates, places, and times things happened; he could remember better than anyone other than history teachers.

Mr. Aaron was a body and fender repairman by trade. He later learned became an electrical contractor for many years before retiring in the 1980s. He was a life-long member of the Winterville First Baptist Church and attended until health reasons prevented him from going. He loved his church and the church family. Mr. Aaron was preceded in death by his parents and 12 siblings. Survivors include his children, Richard (Annette) Aaron and Donna (James) Whitt, of Crawford, Jim (Rita) Boyd, of LaGrange, and Kenneth (Donna) Aaron, of Commerce; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved. He always felt like Joy Pittard White and Billy Pittard were his, too, even though they had their own Daddy.

The family is at the Whitt residence at 240 East Spring Street, in Crawford. Flowers are optional or donations may be made to the Winterville First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, at Lord & Stephens East. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, at the Lord & Stephens East Chapel, with Dr. Phil Wages officiating. Burial will follow at the veterans' park at Evergreen Memorial Park, on Atlanta Highway, in Athens.
