George A. Lackey
George Andrew Lackey, son of Andrew and Phoebe Ann Lackey was born Nov. 6, 1886 in Nowata, Okla., at that time it was the indian territory, and passed away Dec. 30, 1973, at the home of his daughter, Opal, at the age of 87 years one month and 23 days. He moved with his parents to Kansas, near Rose Hill in Butler county at an early age where he attended school.

He was united in marriage to Ellen May Bower on Dec. 23, 1908. They moved to Sumner county, Kansas near Ashton. To this union three children were born, Hiram, Edna and Opal. Later he moved east of Douglass, Kansas and worked in the Oil fields until 1921, when he moved with his family to Baca County, 11 miles southwest of Springfield.

Mrs. Lackey passed away in 1943. In 1951 he and Mrs. Nellie Ragsdale were married and lived on his farm until 1954 when they moved to Springfield and lived at 708 Santa Fe. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. May Lackey, his second wife Mrs. Nellie Lackey, his father and mother, two brothers, two son-in-laws, one grand-daughter and four great grandchildren.

He leaves to mourn his passing one son, Hiram F. Lackey of San Jacinto, Calif., two daughters, Edna M. Brown of Norwalk, Calif., and Clara Opal Simpson of Downey, Calif., one step-daughter and husband, Caroline and Allen Hurd of Fountain Valley, Calif., one sister, Mrs. Clara Dennett of Augusta, Kans., 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, a number of nephews and nieces and many friends and neighbors.

He loved people and looked after others less fortunate than himself. He was never to busy to give his fellowman a helping hand. He was an old time fiddler and he loved music. He took great pride in his garden and derived much pleasure in sharing it. He will be greatly missed by many.
