U.S. Congressman. Graduating from Spiceland Academy, he was a school teacher in Indiana’s Henry and Wayne Counties. Studying law, he was admitted to the bar, in 1876, was prosecuting attorney of the eighteenth and fifty-third judicial circuits, (1887-93) and judge of the fifty-third judicial circuit court of Indiana, (1896-1902). In 1909, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-first Congress, serving until 1911. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he practiced law until his death at age 86 in New Castle, Indiana.
